Website redesign

After my initial rant about the state of this website, I've done something about it. I've changed it. I've put the weblog on the home page, and moved the happy talk links from the header onto the details page.

I've made it look cleaner, and although it could still be better, I'm much happier with it. When Robert and I have concurrent spare time, I'll show him how to blog, and he can entertain you with his words too.

After a few more minor adjustments, I think I'm happy. Maybe I should add some photos though...

Robert, Anthony,

Here is my intepretation of genesis?

CREATION vs EVOLUTION

If we are to believe conventional wisdom, then then we are told God created Adam and Eve and this was the beginning for us humans.

That's what Albrecht Durer engraved in about 1500 AD., complete with modest fig leaves and Eve tempting Adam with an apple:

But, famous artist though he was, they both have navels. Navels are where the mother and child are connected by an umbilical cord until the birth of the child. If God created them, they would not have had navels. In the time of Durer in the Western World the church discouraged people from thinking too clearly about the stories in the Bible, either by burning them alive at the stake or stretching them on the rack as heretics. But Columbus had already reached the new world, Martin Luther was alive and well, peasants were rebelling in Europe, and the hold of the church on men's minds was slipping.

After the protestant reformation people had more freedom to question things. It gradually became apparent that the world was far older than the 6000 or so years you get by adding up the dates in the Bible from Adam to the present:

And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

And so on down to Abraham and then Moses.

'Many Christians believed that the world and everything in it, including mankind, had been created by God in the beginning - and had remained unaltered ever since.

Even those who accepted the very great age of the earth believed that every living creature looked the way it did because God had designed it that way.

Darwin's theory made nonsense of all this. He said that the world was a constantly changing place and that all living creatures were changing too.

Far from being created in God's own image, Darwin suggested that human life had probably started out as something far more primitive - the story of Adam and Eve was a myth. No wonder the church was outraged.'

There was no mention of theistic evolution, thus evolution is exposed for what it is, an anti-Christian and atheistic ideology. One can only hope that this obvious strong atheistic conclusion will shock Christians and non-Christians to reconsider the implications of evolutionary theory. Then there was a disparaging comment about those who do not believe evolution. 'Not everyone accepts evolution today. Some religions/cults require people to believe that the world and everything in it was created by God.

Some people - even some scientists - suggest there is a divine force at work in nature.
What has been proved over the last 50 years is how much more Darwin was right than either he, or anybody, realised. Yet some of life's deepest mysteries still remain to be discovered....'
This quote can also be found:- 'One hundred and thirty years after the publication of Darwin's Origin of Species, and 6,000 years since the creation of the earth as calculated by Archbishop Ussher, the Roman Catholic church has acknowledged the theory of evolution as true. The Pope's acknowledgement of the truth of the evolutionary scientific view of the world's history, ends a long rearguard action fought by the Roman Catholic Church to maintain some literal sense for the book of Genesis. Andrew Brown, The Independent. 25 October 1996.

So what are peoples thoughts? Did God create Adam and Eve or is it a great myth? And if its a Myth what then....Over to you….

Thank you for youir most welcome comments on evolution and creation.
We believe in Adam and Eve because Jesus' life, ministry and death make no sense without there being 'a first Adam', after all he came as the last Adam to bring about a new creation.
We need to consider why Genesis was written, it was written to point people to the creator, not as a science text book.

Surely God could create Adam and Eve with navels if he liked? But who knows, or cares, whether they had any? The bible also says that to God a day is like a thousand years (meaning his time frame is different to ours). I believe that this helps explain the existance of dinosaurs and why the earth is so old. When the bible says he created the world in 6 days it does not necessarily mean 6 slots of 24 hours. Therefore, it is possible to belive that there is room for creation and a certain level of evolution in what has happened to our world since it began.

No one disputes the 'survival of the fittest' theory but a lot of people have trouble beliving that this intricate wonderful world just evolved all by itself, including me. The more I learn about the world, the delicate balance of the human body, and the way a baby grows in the womb the more I am sure this was the work of a genious loving creater.
Lastly the one thing that those who think we evolved from apes never seem to ask is why there aren't apes/humans out there still in the process of evolving.

To anonymous, I say that yes, the Adam and Eve story is a myth.

To Robert: I don't believe that we need to see Adam and Eve literally: I would see the story as allegorical. It's an important point about Jesus; however I would say that there is no need to interpret Jesus literally either. No one assumes that Jesus' parables, for example, were based on literal events. Jesus was clearly no stranger to allegory and metaphor.

To "anonymous two" a couple of points:

>The more I learn about the world, >the delicate balance of the human >body, and the way a baby grows in >the womb the more I am sure this >was the work of a genious loving >creater.

The problem with this is it is bit of rose tinted spectacles - there's just been a hurricane that flattened the Southern United States - was that the work of a loving creator?

>Lastly the one thing that those who >think we evolved from apes never >seem to ask is why there aren't >apes/humans out there still in the >process of evolving.

The answer to that is that there are. Or at least, there are cases where populations have changed over time. The time it would take for "an ape to evolve into a human" would be measured in millions of years; you can't go out into Uckfield High street on a Thursday morning and say "oh look - there's an ape that's evolving into a human!". (On second thoughts, maybe you can!! ;-))

Hi Elizabeth,

Glad you like the website, and thanks for letting me know. An original member of the church? Fantastic. I wonder how much it's changed.

You're right, your mother is amazing. She seems to spend all her time doing things for other people, and extremely cheerfully too.
