History
In 1983, a group of Christians in Uckfield formed the Uckfield Christian
Fellowship, initially meeting in the Day Centre in the town. As the Church grew
over the years, they moved the meetings to Rocks Park Primary School, the
Community College and currently to the Civic Centre.
In the early days, oversight of the Church was given by the leadership of a
Church in a nearby village but, in 1987, it became apparent that the Church
should have its own leadership; the Church was constituted as The King’s
Church, Uckfield and was led by Simon Pettit. In August 1990 Simon moved with
his family to South Africa to assume leadership of Jubilee Community Church in
Cape Town. The period from 1990-1998 saw a number of changes in the leadership
resulting from God’s call on various people's lives. The present leaders are
Robert Thursfield, Jon Scott and Steve May-Miller.
In this period other changes took place in the Church:
-
The office was moved from the High Street to Wealden Lodge
-
Crowborough Community Church was planted out in May 1997 under Roy Bastin's
leadership
-
Preparations were made for "cell" to be introduced throughout the Church in
1999 and the Church is moving forward with purpose and in faith under the
present leadership team
-
In September 2003, the office was moved from Wealden Lodge to Grange Road
