King's Church Uckfield

This is where there should be a neat description of the church, which sells it to you with a quick, pithy tagline. However, that's really hard to do. Sure, we have guitars and drums in the Sunday service, but that isn't all we're about. We emphasise people as being the church, not the building, but to most people that's just semantics. We do stuff in the community, but "community" is a rather nebulous word. Maybe the description is actually words about the things that we do, we have done, and the people that do them.

Funday on the Field - 20th July

The Churches in Uckfield Funday on the Field was a fine end to the Uckfield Festival events on Luxford Field. The weather was a perfect blend of sunshine and a refreshing breeze, the field was packed, and an abundance of enjoyment was to be had.

King's Church had the renowned facepainting team on hand to decorate many faces and soon a huge queue had formed, full of children eager with anticipation. Hanzup puppets were back, this time with a puppet workshop as well as a performance. The Mastermind quiz was comical; contestants who answered incorrectly were subject to a soaking!

The field was packed with a myriad of other activities from fishing for ducks to bouncy castles. It was a wonderful afternoon concluding with Songs of Praise, a time of worship and interviews with Christians from across Uckfield. It was great to work together with the other Uckfield churches; look out for the Funday on the Field next year!

Big Day Out - Jazz Concert

On the 12th July, King's Church joined the rest of Uckfield for the Big Day Out, widely celebrated as the pinnacle of the Uckfield Festival. Many local residents joined in the fun on Luxford Field, enjoying entertainment from many of the local schools, companies, churches and organisations.

The King's Church stand, comprising of puppets, facepainting, teas, coffees and free plants, was bustling with life and vibrance. The Hanzup puppet group, who are establishing a great reputation, put on an impressive set which was watched by numberous children and families. The facepainting, ever-popular, was a hubbub of happy painted faces and smiling artists.

Later, The Zizz Horns took to the stage for an evening of jazz, lead by Dave Fellingham from Church of Christ the King, Brighton. The rain theatened but in the end fantastic music prevailed and the field was full of families and picnickers, and even a hen party! The atmosphere was relaxed yet dynamic; another successful jazz concert on the field.
